Superrabbit Part Nine: Welcome to Metropolis

******************************************************************************************

"Charmed I'm sure" Lois replied as she shook hands with Clark while giving him an appraising look. He would she thought be handsome rather than merely good looking if his glasses didn't distort the contours of his face. Probably he needed a stronger prescription than contacts could handle she thought as he released her hand.
"Now Lois you show Clark here the ropes and his way around the Planet," Perry said waving the two of them out of his office as he sat down behind his desk.

"So where are you from Clark?" Lois asked as he followed her out to the bullpen.
"Smallville, I doubt you'll have heard of it it's a little town in..."
"Kansas, I thought I detected a bit of corn belt twang in your accent. Camp Jones is near there isn't it?"
"Let me guess you're father was a Major?"
"Actually he's a General now."
"How many stars?" Clark asked as Lois indicated for him to sit down in the desk beside hers.
"Three. You thirsty Smallville?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Because Jimmy is coming here with two coffees and he always puts too much milk in for me. Jimmy" she said looking up at the duo toned blue cat as he reached them. "Say hello to the new reporter Clark Kent. He'll have the one you brought me" she said as she booted up her computer.
"Nice to meet you Mr Kent" he said offering him the paper cup in his left hand before transferring the one in his right to it and offering his hand.
"Nice to meet you too Jimmy, and please call me Clark" he replied shaking hands with the younger man.
"That's quite a grip you have there Mr Ken, Clar, CK" Jimmy said shaking his hand "You're stronger than you look, where you from Mars?"
Clark laughed, his eyes twinkling in amusement as he shook his head. "I'm from Kansas and was working on the farm for years, lots of heavy lifting that was probably better than any gym routine."

Later
"Come on Smallville seeing as it's your first day I'll treat you to lunch" Lois said as she picked her handbag out of a desk drawer and pulling her jacket off her chair. "What do you fancy?"
"Actually I'm not particularly hungry Lois just a sandwich will do" Clark replied as he slipped into his own jacket and followed her towards the elevator.
"Then we need to go to Reeves. Best sandwiches on the entire east coast."

"So do you agree or not Clark?" Lois asked as she swallowed a bite of her tuna teriyaki sub and reached for her soda.
"Well it's certainly the best I've tasted in Metropolis. But I have only been here for a couple of days" Clark replied as he finished his own sandwich.
"So how come you came to the big M?"
"The planet mainly, I got an offer for the Gotham Globe but Metropolis is closer to Smallville and Mom."
"Just your Mom?"
"My father passed away before I graduated High School" Clark replied looking rather downcast.
"I'm sorry to hear that" Lois said taking his hand in hers and giving it a soft squeeze as she smiled gently at him.
"Thanks Lois" he replied with a shy smile as he gently squeezed her hand back.

"Trust me Clark this a quicker way back to the office" Lois said as she strode down a dark trash strewn alley.
"I'll take your word for that but I think we're..." Clark trailed off as his superhearing picked up the sound of someone breathing heavily ahead of them.
"In trouble yeah you got that right" the tall thin mangy looking dog in tattered jeans and dirty grey T shirt and jacket said as he stepped in front of them a small squat revolver in his hand. "I'll take that bag o yous lady" he said pointing it at Lois.
She dropped it in front of her and took a step back her hands raised.
As he leaned down to pick it up she kicked out sending him flying backwards. Instinctively he pulled the trigger. Clark dashed forward catching the bullet and dropped down to the floor.
"Clark!" Lois yelled kneeling besides him as the would be mugger ran off. "Clark are you alright?" she asked gently shaking him.
"Lois, I'm sorry I guess I must have fainted when his gun went off" he said as she helped him to his feet.
"You fainted huh?"
"Well I'm from a small town that hasn't had a mugging in like ever. I'm sure a big city girl like you has been mugged dozens of times. And was it really worth it risking both our lives for two credit cards a roll of quarters and some make up?"
"How did you know the exact contents of my purse?" Lois asked as she glanced into her purse.
"I saw it when you paid for lunch."
