Bugs and Lola: Part Ten

******************************************************************************************

Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons belong to WB and Amblin, Doctor Who to the BBC.

Buster crumpled the letter from his mother into a ball and threw it across the room as he swore angrily and loudly before he punched the wall. He swore again at the throbbing pain in his hand but truthfully he barely felt that, the pain in his heart was worse.
"Is everything alright Buster?" Babs asked gently as she came up behind him.
"No Babs it's not, the UN in it's infinite wisdom has arranged the travel home for my mom in such a way that she's not going to be home until the twenty seventh of December. First my birthday now Christmas, at the this rate all we'll be able to say to each other is hello, happy new years, goodbye and maybe I'll see you at Easter," he replied bitterly as he sank to his haunches on the floor, hating the fact he was crying in front of Babs.
Babs sat next to him and guided his head to her chest as she held him tight. She knew that he rarely saw his mom because of her job but this was the first time he'd ever said who she worked for. She sighed mournfully, she wanted to go with her first instinct and say he could come to her's for Christmas but that wasn't an option, not with her whole family coming this year. At least it was a weekend and he didn't have to face school this upset.

"So are you coming to my place for Christmas Bugs or am I coming to yours?" Lola asked as she snuggled into him on her couch while he pulled her quilt tight over them both with one arm while his other hand began to run up and down her spine.
"I should probably come here Lo, I haven't seen you for so long I just might not let you leave if you come to mine," he said teasingly as she snuggled closer in response to the way he was making her feel.
"What makes you think I plan on letting you leave?" she teased back as she reached up to his ears and ran her fingers up and down them as she kissed him.
"Because I'm Bugs Bunny, I can escape from anything."
"Except for that hotel in that Daffy and Porky short," Lola said as she arched her head back so Bugs could kiss her throat in that way he did that made her feel so good.
"Ok in the morning," Bugs said as he accepted her unspoken invitaion, "We'll flip a coin and decide who's going where and agree to let them leave. Eventually."

"Ok you're coming to my place then Lo. I'll let you out of the handcuffs, on Boxing day," Bugs said as he kissed her goodbye.

Whistling absently Bugs stopped as he saw the pink Bunny sat waiting on the hanging bench in his front garden and frowned. Although he had known both Buster and Babs all their lives it was unusual for Babs to come to his place alone, generally that was Buster when he needed someone to talk to who wasn't his own age.
"Hello Bugs sir," she said as he reached her.
"Is everything alright Babs?"
"For me yes, for Buster no. Did you know his mom works for the UN?"
"I did. She's a lawyer specialising in International law why?"
"Because she's not going to be home in time for Christmas and Buster's rather upset about it. Ordinarily I'd invite him over for it but we're having the whole family this year so it's not possible. And everyone else can't help either they're going away, don't have the room  or have family coming. So now my boyfriend is going to be all alone and, and, and I feel such a failure as a girlfriend," Babs wailed.
"You're not a failure Babs. Life isn't fair, if it was Buster would be having Christmas with his family, including a non scumbag for a father, instead of me and Lola."
"Won't Lola mind?" Babs asked slightly shocked at the look of pure unmittigated hatred that had appeared on Bugs face when he mentioned Buster's father.
"No she's quite fond of you lot. And having Buster means I can't have her in handcuffs, or she me," Bugs replied. "You'll understand if you ever to go for weeks at a time without seeing Buster," he added with a chuckle as he saw the slightly grossed out look on Babs face.

"This is an absolute joke. We've been working our butts off for ages for this. We've all earned some major RnR and now you third rate, slip shod jumped up little sorry excuses for clerks can't get us homw when you were suppossed to."
"Maam please calm down we're, maam. Maam!" the administrator said as the raven haired, white furred rabbit Toon who had just been berating him stormed off.
"Smooth Kath, smooth," she scolded herself. "He's just doing his job, it's not his fault you're going to miss Christams day with your son.."
"I wouldn't say that Mrs Bunny," an English accented voice interrupted her.
She turned to see who was speaking to her and was somewhat surprised to see the tall, rather good looking human in the corner. He had curly jaw length hair and blue eyes that seemed to be both immeasuarbly old and incredibly young at the same time and was dressed in rather old fashioned clothes.
"Well unless you can get me to America in the next three days I am. And the first flight isn't until six AM Boxing day."
He smiled, "Mrs Bunny I could get you to America any time past, present or future."
She looked at him curiously, she worked with a lot of UN agencies including UNIT and she'd heard the stories about their scientific advisior. "Doctor John Smith?"
"If they really need an official name for the paperwork. I am The Doctor. Just The Doctor."
"Why would the guy who seems to save the world every week offer me a lift to see my son on Christmas day?"
"Well it would be saving your world in a sense wouldn't it? Besides we have a mutual friend in Bugs. He gave me an open invitation to have Christmas dinner with him centuries ago, well from my point of view, from his it was about fifteen years or so ago and I thought I'd take him up on it this year. I also know he's having your son Buster over this year. Shall we?" he asked as he offered her his arm.

"Merry Christmas everyone," Bugs said as he gave Buster and Lola a glass of Bucks Fizz.
"Thanks for having me Bugs," Buster said as he accepted the glass from Bugs, "You too Lola," he added as the three of them chinked glasses. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"I wonder who that could be, we normally meet up Boxing day?" Bugs said curiously as he went to answer the door.
"Doc? What are you doing here?".
"You invited years ago remember? And I hope you don't mind but I brought a friend with me" Buster and Lola heard as they stepped out into the hallway to see who it was.
"Mom!" Buster shouted as he ran up and hugged her while Bugs and The Doctor stood there smiling with their hands behind their backs.

"Doctor?" Lola asked later that night when they were alone while Bugs was sorting a room for both Kath and Buster.
"Yes Lola?"
"How did you know Buster was going to be here today?"
"I overheard Bugs telling Babs about it when I popped by to see him a couple of weeks ago."
"Is that how you knew his mom wouldn't be here in time for Christmas?"
"Yes."
Lola sat down and took a sip of her wine, "So Doctor why don't you tell me about your travels with Bugs? Or how you met?"
When Buster has bad news his friends help out.
